For some reason our cats insist on curling up together on a chair that is barely large enough to contain the two of them. Moreover, within minutes of my taking this picture the two of them had moved to different parts of the room as if it never happened. They certainly don't sit still for very long.

The way my mom put it is that it's a microfiber couch and cats don't generally like the texture of the material so they tend to keep of it. Of course that doesn't stop Mia from curling up along the back of the couch (even if she usually picks out the spot where there's a small blanket folded over the middle section). This might, however, serve as an explanation for all the static electricity that is generated by the simple act of sitting on it though. Even I've become repelled by the prospect of sitting on the couch because I don't want to get zapped by the next piece of metal I touch every time I decide to get up.

I'm not sure it really constitutes backfiring considering the couch was my mom's idea and I'm the one whose been taking the punishment for it. I wonder why I haven't heard any problems from my brother considering she bought him the exact same kind of couch for his room...~

Could it be he and his friends haven't noticed or are the conditions out there different enough to prevent the buildup of static?

Sometimes when they think no one is watching we've actually caught them grooming each other. Of course once they realize we're paying attention they start wrestling around on the floor bearing their claws and teeth to draw attention away from the previously cute behavior. One of these days I'll catch them in the act while I have my camera on hand and there will be no more denying it for them.
